Codes & usage limits

Give a discount a promo code and it stops applying by itself. It waits until someone types the code at checkout. You can also limit how many times any discount can be used.

Who can do this: the Administrator and staff with the Admin role create, edit and delete discounts. Store Admin and Reports Viewer can view them. Discounts are a plan feature (see the badge above).

Add a code#

1. Open the discount with Create discount or Edit discount.
2. Under How is this discount applied?, choose Promotional code.
3. Type the code in Promo code, for example SUMMER20.
4. Click Save.

Each code must be unique in your business. The builder checks as you type and shows Promo code is available when the code is free.

Set usage limits#

Under Stacking and limits, the Limits box says: "Cap how many times this discount can be redeemed, and how much it can take off. Leave a field empty for no limit."

Guest checkouts do not count towards Maximum uses per customer, because there is no customer to count. If a promotion must be strictly one per person, attach a customer to every order that uses it.

A customer who has reached their limit sees: "you have already used this discount the maximum number of times." When the total is reached, the reason is "discount usage limit reached".

How the counts move#

• A use is counted only when the order is saved. A checkout that fails or is abandoned does not use anything.
• Cancelling the order gives the use back.
• A return does not give it back. The discount helped make the sale, and returning goods does not undo that.
• Removing a discount from an order while you edit it also gives the use back.

The counts are exact even when many tills are busy. Two checkouts that race for the last use cannot both get it.

Delete or switch off#

• A discount that has never been used can be deleted. Open its row menu, choose Delete discount, and confirm with Delete permanently.
• A discount that has been used cannot be deleted. The app says: "this discount has been redeemed 3 times and cannot be deleted; deactivate it instead." Orders that used it still point to it, so deleting it would break their history.

To stop a used discount, edit it and turn off Discount is active. It then no longer applies at any checkout.

With Bulk delete, one used discount in your selection stops the whole batch. Remove it from the selection and try again.
