Low stock & out of stock
Where the low stock level comes from, and what the Low stock warning and Out of stock tabs show.
The Low stock warning and Out of stock tabs on the inventory list are your restocking list. They never overlap. "Low" means running out, not out. A product is low when its available stock is above zero but at or below its low stock level. It is out when it is at zero.
Who can do this: anyone who can view inventory sees the tabs. Setting a product's low stock level needs permission to edit products.
Check what needs restocking#
- Select a store in the top bar.
- Go to Inventory > Inventory management.
- Open Low stock warning to see what is running out, or Out of stock to see what is gone.
- Open a row's menu and select View inventory to see its stock, or Add inventory to receive more.

Where the low stock level comes from#
The level is worked out per product, in this order:
- The product's own level, if set. This is the Low stock below field on the product. It is in that product's own unit, so 10 means ten pieces for one product and ten kilograms for another.
- If the field is empty, the store default is used.
A level of 0 means "never warn me about this product". That is different from leaving the field empty, which means "use the store default". See the field reference.
Behind the scenes#
- Products that do not track stock are never low.
- A product with variants is judged per variant.
- A product you have forced out of stock is not listed as low.
- For a product sold by measure, the level can be a decimal, such as 2.5 kg.
- The Low stock warning tab shows only when the store has products that track stock.
