Bulk edit

Bulk update turns the product list into a grid you can edit. Use it to reprice a range, change the status of a season's products or fix codes. Nothing is written until every change passes its checks.

Who can do this: the people who can edit products, which means the Administrator and the Admin and Inventory Manager roles. It also depends on your plan (see the badge at the top of the page).

Before you start#

• Filter or search the product list first. The grid opens with exactly the products the list shows.
• The same rules apply as on the single product form. See the field reference.

Edit in bulk#

1. Go to Products > Manage products.
2. Search or filter the list down to the products you want to change.
3. Select Bulk update. The page says: "Editing products that match your current filters / search query".
4. Change the values in the grid. You can edit the name, type of identifier and barcode, status, SKU, pricing strategy, categories, price, cost, weight and dimensions. Expand a row to edit its variants' names, codes, prices and costs.
5. Select Save All Changes.

Behind the scenes#

• Checked first, then saved. The changes are checked in small batches before anything is written. The progress line says "nothing is written until every product passes."
• A failed check saves nothing. If any product in a batch fails, the whole batch is not saved, for example: "2 of 25 products failed validation. Nothing was saved." The rows with problems are highlighted.
• A stopped save says where it stopped. If saving stops partway, the page tells you how many products were saved before the failed batch. Your remaining edits stay on screen.
• Your edits survive a closed browser. If you leave before saving, reopening the page shows "Restored your unsaved bulk changes".
• Duplicates inside the grid are caught. Two rows cannot claim the same name, SKU or barcode in one save.

Watch out#

• Bulk delete is a separate button on the product list. It is not limited by plan, but it still refuses a selection if any product has stock.
• To sell a product by measure, open the product itself and turn on Allow fractional quantities. The grid does not have that switch.
