How plans work
Allotments, features, and what changes when you change plan.
A plan does two different things at once, and telling them apart makes every billing screen make sense.
Who can do this: only the Administrator sees Billing. Staff who open it get "No access to billing — billing and subscription details are managed by the business owner."
Allotments are quantities the base price includes — a number of stores and a number of staff seats. They are starting points, not ceilings: paid plans that sell add-ons let you buy extra seats whenever you need them, and release them again. See Seats & add-ons.
Features are capabilities that are on or off — discounts, fulfilment options, bulk edit, customer groups, exports and more. Two of them come in grades rather than on/off: analytics (from a basic view up to record-level drill-downs) and roles (from the built-in roles up to authoring your own). Higher plans also keep more history — how far back your analytics, orders and activity records reach.
The Free plan adds one more rule of its own: a monthly order allowance. The meter on your dashboard's Billing panel and on the Billing page shows where you stand; the allowance resets each month, and paid plans have no order cap at all.
A feature your plan doesn't include stays visible — marked in the sidebar, and explained if you open it:
